A Reason to Sing
“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.”
Psalm 30:11,12, NKJV
The Hebrew word for “turned” occurs over 90 times throughout the Old Testament. In Psalm 30:11, it implies transformative deliverance—certainly a cause for praise!
The moment the fruit was plucked from the Tree in the Garden, a beautiful plan was put into play. God provided coverings for Adam and Eve’s nakedness, and going forward we see His sovereign fingerprints upon lives and hearts of humanity.
From a nation passing through parted waters, to a wide-eyed king gazing at four men in a fiery furnace…
from a shepherd boy with a sling and a stone, to a courageous young queen in a foreign land…
from a Pharisee on a dusty road to Damascus, to a tax collector perched in a tree…
from a fisherman striving all night to fill his net, to a man born blind…
from a thirsty worn-out woman seeking water, to a thief on a cross, to countless others, Biblical history is filled with one table-turning story after another.
Spanning the course of centuries, a thread of smaller reversals led to the greatest one of all time—the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One Sacrifice for all. Our death sentences overturned. The ultimate gift, unearned.
And so, though you and I may face difficult days of this life, we can lift tear-filled eyes, with hope, toward the horizon, having reason to sing. 🤍
